Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
In celebration of Diwali and Kali Puja, Kolkata Metro Railway has announced special late-night metro services on Thursday to accommodate the large crowds expected at religious sites. Traditionally, devotees flock to Kalighat and Dakshineshwar temples for worship on Kali Puja night, creating a high demand for transportation services. Recognizing this, Metro Railway will operate additional metro services to provide convenient access for worshippers and maintain crowd control.
Under regular schedules, the last metro departs from both Kavi Subhash and Dakshineshwar stations at 9:40 p.m. However, on Thursday, Metro Railway officials decided to operate four additional services from each end, running every 20 minutes until 11:00 p.m. This temporary schedule adjustment aims to ease travel for devotees and prevent overcrowding in stations and trains.
To assist travelers with planning, Metro Railway has shared the exact timings for the additional services. From Kavi Subhash, special trains will depart at 10:00 p.m., 10:20 p.m., 10:40 p.m., and 11:00 p.m. Similarly, services will leave Dakshineshwar station at 9:48 p.m., 10:08 p.m., 10:28 p.m., and 10:48 p.m. These extra services are expected to provide a smoother travel experience for the thousands of devotees visiting Kali Puja sites.
However, fewer metro trains will operate on the Green Line-1 route between Sealdah and Sector-5 on Thursday compared to regular days, offering a reduced but continuous service. Other metro routes will operate according to their standard schedules without alterations.
